Why Google Sitemaps is a Win-Win Situation for Webmasters

The process of informing search engines about new pages in your website or about new websites in your care can be quite a time consuming task. The submissions process is just way too much trouble for its own good that even the search engines have realized that it is a path not worth pursuing and completely stopped using this method a long time ago.

There have been many innovations presented since then as a way of simplifying the submission process and eliminate most of the drudgery that has been associated with this task. With the development Google Sitemaps, the process has indeed been a big help to many webmasters and business owners. In fact, many people contend that Google Sitemaps is probably the most important development on the internet since the RSS, blogs and ping.

RSS, weblog and ping had actually been used by webmasters as tools in informing search engines about new additions to their websites even though this function was not the primary purpose of the aforementioned innovations. Of course, Google Sitemaps is so much faster and easier to use compared to the said systems and this is the reason why it has risen in popularity and is now acknowledged as the most effective way of updating a website to search engines. In fact, this new innovation of using sitemaps for the search engine submission process has become a very vital part of operating a website and a webmaster can ignore it at his own risk.

There may still be some sceptics who may still not believe that a sitemap method of submitting new web pages or new content to a website is very effective. One reason why using the sitemap method like Google Sitemaps is that the technology was developed from the ground up with solely one primary goal, which is to alert and direct the Google search engine spiders to the web pages that you have specified. All the other methods are considered as indirect and submissions to search engines are not their primary purpose either.

Clearly, using Google sitemaps provides a win-win situation for webmasters and online business owners.

First, Google sitemaps limits the huge waste of the resources needed to crawl web site that have not changed. The technology allows webmasters to inform Google which pages have changed or if there are new content added to a website and then direct Google’s spiders directly to those pertinent pages.

Google Sitemaps also radically speeds up the process of discovery and addition of pages to Google’s web site index. This can only be achieved if you use the technology and nothing else.

Google Sitemaps offers a level of usability that is different from conventional sitemaps because it offers a directory of all the web pages in the web site that the webmaster or online business owner wants the search engine to visit.

Without the assistance of sitemaps like Google’s, it may become hard for a web page to be found by the search engine crawlers. There is even a chance that the page may not be found at all.

Broken Links Are Bad News For Webmasters

A webmaster or website owner’s role or responsibilities do not end when the website he operates goes “live” and is now accessible by visitors online. There are a whole new set of responsibilities and functions that a website owner has to assume in order to make sure that his website continuously works perfectly and is able to fulfill its intended functions. Some of the responsibilities he has to assume include providing fresh content as much as possible, submitting the website to search engines and actively looking for reciprocal links in order to raise the ranking in search engines.

One of the most crucial responsibilities of a website owner is to check for broken links to his website. Broken links can be considered as one of the worst things that can happen to a website. A lot of not so good perceptions and negative effects arise from having a site that is riddled with broken links.

In fact, broken links are plaguing so many websites that it is being considered as a serious problem on the web. Many reasons can be cited for the spread of broken hyperlinks, the general causes of broken links include: Websites not being maintained with the appropriate degree of dedication, the architecture of the website and how information is placed within the site constantly changes, and the large incidence of websites that are closing down.

Hyperlinks are a very important component of websites because it aids in the navigation around the webpages and points to directions outside of the site. A website without links is like a ton of documents that are piled one on top of the other with no rhyme or reason and no intelligent way for you to get to the information that you need.

Link management is a very important and absolutely essential part of maintaining a website. As previously mentioned, broken links bring with it very negative perceptions about the website and these can have very detrimental effects on the traffic generated by the website.

From a technical perspective, broken links can stop search engine robots dead in its tracks, effectively preventing it from completely mapping out a website for submission to search engines. In addition, a website that is riddled with numerous broken hyperlinks gives visitors the idea that the site is unprofessional and that the website owner or owners have a dubious reputation – very costly image problems that are hard to change once it is established. Moreover, visitors who encounter many difficulties in a website will most likely not go back for a return visit, this is almost tantamount to losing prospective clients. They will be turned off because they won’t get the page that they are looking for, thinking that it is not really in the site when in reality the page is there only that an error in coding made the page inaccessible.

With internet users becoming more and more sophisticated as time goes by, it will take website owners more effort to entice these users to visit their websites and broken hyperlinks will not help this very difficult process in any way.

Website owners and webmasters should be very aware of the bad effects of having broken links in their websites. They should diligently weed out and fix any broken links. Fortunately, there are now a growing number of handy utilities that can help webmasters located broken links. With these utilities, managing a website becomes relatively easier.

For example, xml-sitemaps.com has programmed a standalone script that will not only create sitemaps but also looks for broken links in a website and then informs webmasters or website owners what links they are and to which pages the links are associated with. This automation of the task of checking broken links is a great time saver for webmasters and website owners.

Organic SEO The New Messiah For Webmasters

Organic SEO seems to be the catch phrase of the moment. However, unlike many other linking tactics and strategies, this one actually works.

What is Organic SEO or Organic Search Engine Optimization?

Explained simply, it's where all your linking structures originates from the content up -- in other words, you let all your content created for your sites, blogs and articles do your link building for you.

Actually, the answer is as simple as this article. You're probably experiencing one of the best examples of Organic SEO right this moment by reading this article. Article marketing is pure Organic SEO. You let your article and your author's resource box build one-way links from related niche sites back to your site.

But the keyword is content. You must create high quality original content for this system to really develop and flourish. The better the content, the faster your rankings and traffic will grow. By producing valuable content in articles, sites and blogs, you are building real traffic and real links that the search engines salivate over. And they will reward your site with higher rankings and even more traffic.

Try Article Writing...

Frankly, I was rather surprised at the effectiveness of article writing. It seems like such a benevolent little creature. You write about your own experiences on the subject of your site or weblog , keeping your articles short, around 500 to 800 words, although some of my best performing articles have been longer, about 900 to 1200 words.

I have only written about 60 articles. But the benefits have been enormous; spreading my content all over the web and building one-way links back to my sites and blogs. Some of these articles like the ones in Addme.com or Webpronews.com get archived and will provide good deep PR links for years to come.

There are a few techniques I use to extend the effectiveness of my articles. First, I always start with a keyword or keyword phrase that I want to target with a particular article. I do major, major, major research on my article's keywords, using sites like nichebot.com, overture.com, and a few others.

I check how much competition there is for the keywords. Combining a new keyword with ones you already have positioned high for in the search engines works well. For example, I have optimized my site for the keyword 'Free', it appears throughout my site. When I introduce a new keyword phrase I sometimes combine it with Free. Pick the right keyword combination and you will gain an edge over your competition more quickly.

Always put your keyword phrase into the title of your article. I also make it a habit of not picking the top keywords in a niche, I go for middle ranked keywords -- I am better assured that I will rank on the first page SERPs for these lower keywords. Why waste valuable time shooting for the stars when you can easily land on the moon!

I submit my articles mainly to a short list of online article directories ( ezinearticles.com, buzzle.com, isnare.com, goarticles.com, ideamarketers.com, and articlealley.com ) these work the best for me. These sites rank well in the search engines and even though the surfer may go to another site to read your article first, it then delivers a much more warmed up and targeted visitor to your own site.

Other webmasters from your niche will pick up your high quality articles and place them on their sites. Organically growing more related one-way links to your site. Google looks very favorably on these one-way links and will reward your site for having them.

Article marketing is one Organic SEO tactic every website should be using. Instead of paying high prices for seo services, why not write or hire someone to create keyword rich articles for your site. The benefits will surprise you.

Try Blogging...

Make Money Blogging!

Blogs are another form of Organic SEO. It also builds links and traffic to your site the natural way -- by providing valuable content.

For those marketers and webmasters who practice Organic SEO, the free blogging systems are a godsend. A skilled marketer can legitimately use these online blogging programs to boost their site's rankings, traffic and income. What more can any online marketer or webmaster ask for?

I use numerous blogs to compliment my sites. I base these blogs on the major keywords of my sites. For example, one section on my main Internet Marketing site examines laptop computers, I created a weblog with Bloglines.com covering the same topic. Although all the content is different from what you will find on my main site.

I also use Blogger.com because it's owned by Google and is very simple to use. I find posting my weekly ezine on Blogger adds another way I can get my message out to my subscribers. Not to mention, all the linking and pinging a weblog brings into play.

I also use the open source software and system, WordPress for another of my blogs on marketing. This is a php database supported program that was a lot less easier to set up on my site than I first expected. It's one of the best blogging systems I have worked with and is highly favored by the search engines. If you're not using it -- try it.

In addition, I have just started using LiveJournal for another weblog and that system is also very easy to use. I usually post to my blogs once or twice a week, just short helpful tips or links that a visitor or search engine would be interested in. Keep in mind, all these free blogging sites are PR9 or PR10, has to count for something.

Spam has become a problem with many of these blogging systems, I now usually block all comments or moderate them. All this spam just goes to show how effective getting links in related blogs can booster your rankings for competitive keywords.

I have found blogging to be a very effective tool for getting your keywords indexed and ranked very quickly. I also like to use blogs for those golden double-header listings in the SERPs, preferably at the number 1 and 2 spots! That's where you get two listings from your site for a certain keyword on the first page, this I find, brings in a lot more traffic than a single listing.

In art there is something called the Golden Section, a perfect proportion that works magic into any painting or picture. It is an organic and natural effect that appears everywhere in our world. For webmasters, having your site listed 1 and 2 for your keywords has to be another form of the Golden Section, made especially for us.

In that same light, Organic SEO is a natural and effective way for webmasters to grow their links and rankings. Articles and blogs are two special tools we can use to further that natural growth. Create your own Golden Section and give the search engines something to talk about by trying Organic SEO. Build your links and rankings the natural way.

Your site's salvation is only a keystroke away!

Effective Communication for Webmasters

Your website should serve as a means to an end rather than as an end in itself. Lack of clarity of purpose, poor spelling, or sloppy layout will mar its effectiveness. On the other hand a website full of gaudy graphics, animations and rambling text may attract too much attention to itself, thereby interfering with the message that you are attempting to communicate.

The primary purpose of any website is communicating ideas and emotions that lead the visitor toward a specific goal or action. Your website will be appraised, by your visitor, on its ability to present your ideas concisely, clearly and effectively.

Communication Techniques

Your ideas may be conveyed not only by the context in which they are presented but by the type of graphics employed, (i.e. or not) colors used, and the layout of the web page through which you are expressing them. All of these things will have an emotional interpretation by your visitor and ultimately decide whether or not you reach them with your ideas. Emotional response depends heavily on presentation.

Effective presentation on the web depends upon three things.

1)Graphics

Keep your graphics under control! Unless you are presenting your graphics for sale use them only for emphasis. Use your graphics to clarify or to give visual clues for the message you are trying to convey. Never allow them to overpower your page but, let them help to tell a story, present an idea, or support a theme.

2) Colors

Color is very important if you wish to evoke an emotional response from your visitor. Pick colors that you respond to emotionally and then test them on your audience to see their response. Never use more than three(3) basic colors in your color scheme. This provides a continuity in the appearance of your website.

3) Webpage Layout

Above all else strive for simplicity in your webpage layout. The cleaner your layout the more likely it is that your message will be understood by your visitors. A simple and well organized webpage makes it easy for your audience to grasp your content and act on it. Its better to add extra pages to your website than to try and cram too much information onto one page.

Improve Search Engine Rank--Top Tips and Techniques for Webmasters

Various techniques are used by Specialists and Webmasters to Improve Search Engine Rank. This is because more than 80% of the people who want to know something go to the Search Engines to get what they want. Hence a Good Search Engine Rank is extremely important for the success of your Internet Marketing Business. Given below are some very Special Tips and Techniques that will help you in your efforts to Improve Search Engine Rank of your website.

1. FOCUS ON KEYWORD.

Choose Your Keyword:

The first and most important step is to choose the right keywords for which you wish to rank well. You have to focus on this because all your efforts are going to be centered around this. While doing this for your home page it is important to adopt the same procedure and target different keywords for different pages of your site. This is because search engines match each query with the most relevant page and not the site.

Target The Right Keyword:

Optimizing your site for a popular keyword and securing a high page rank is not enough. You should optimize for the right keyword that is most relevant to your site otherwise your efforts will be in vain. The keywords that you choose should be specific. Since there is fierce competition for popular single word keywords, it is better to choose two or three word phrases that specifically describe your site content. Though you might obtain a good page rank with a very well optimized site and it appears high in the results, if no one searches for them in the search engines you are not going to enjoy the benefits of a high PR. so choose one that is reasonably popular and ones that people actually type.

2. INTEGRATE KEYWORD.

Once the right keywords relevant to your site are chosen, you should now integrate these keywords into your site, placing very special attention to places where Search Engines look.

Website URL:

It is very important that you have at least one of the important keywords in the URL.This will help the search engine to understand what your site is all about.

Page Title:

To improve page rank the page title is another important place to integrate your keywords. Since this too gives an indication to the search engine useful information about your site. Though most sites use the same title for all the pages, it is better to have different titles with specific keywords integrated into it, reflecting the content in that particular page.

Page Content:

It is a well known fact that the page content or text is most important to search engines. So to improve page rank you should focus all your attention to ensure that the targeted keywords are well represented in your content. Unless these keywords appear in the text your chances of obtaining a good page rank will be remote. In addition to having your keywords in the text of the page three very important criteria should also be adhered to, which is very often overlooked by most webmasters.

a. Use keywords frequently but do not stuff your page with keywords. Search Engines do not approve keyword stuffing.

b. Place your keywords close to each other. This helps the the search engines.

c. Place the keywords near the top of your page in the page content.

3. OBTAIN LINKS FROM OTHER SITES.

To improve search engine rank another important thing you should do is to get other sites to link to you, because the number of links, linking to your site is a measure of popularity. Most search engines consider link popularity as the most important factor in deciding the relevance of a site. It becomes obvious that you should put in a lot of effort to get as many sites as possible to link to you.

If it is a new site get a link from a website that has already been listed in search engines.

Search Engines look at not only the number of sites that link to you but also the quality of the sites that link to you. In other words a link from a popular and relevenant P7 site is much better than several links from smaller sites. Hence quality is considered more important than quantity. A judicious mix of quality and quantity will help improve search engine rank.

4. META TAG:

It is an embedded HTML tag that contains descriptive information, keywords and other information about a web page and does not appear when the web page is displayed in a browser. There was a time when search engines relied on Meta tags to assess the site’s relevance and rank them. Most Search Engines no longer rely on meta tags since they have developed new systems for this purpose. Nevertheless it is advisable to have them to improve search engine rank.

5. ALT TAG:

Another important aspect that is often overlooked is the importance of ALT tags. Search Engines don't index images. They can't read them; so to fix this problem there are ALT tags which are descriptions of images that are recognized by search engines. So to get the search engines to recognize the images on your site, ALT tags with keywords can be used which will in turn help you to improve your rank in search engines.

Finally a word of advice, do not try to trick the search engines by using unaccecptable techniques becuse it will not pay in the long run and you could get penalised. By following these methods you will succeed in your attempt to improve search engine rank yourself and be happy and proud of your achievement. Advice from a Specialist will certainly be of help if your intention is to reach the top.
