If you Own, run or maintain an internet based business or a site then you need content. Plain and simple, every who has a site knows this. Even those who don't have sites but are frequent internet users knows this as well. Articles quench the thirst for information and knowledge of the people. Plus, articles provide many other benefits for the site.

Some of the benefits that articles provide include putting a site high in the ranking in search results of keywords and keyword phrases that are relevant to your site. They also provide more web site visitors when they are linked to your site from another site or newsletter. Articles also increase the confidence and trust levels of customers to your site and company.

Many articles are also beneficial to both the company and its traffic. When the reader like the articles, they may tell their friends, family and peers and recommend your site to them, providing for a larger volume of traffic. You get more sales if your traffic trusts and believes in you. Your product or services would be much easier to sell when they know that you know what you are talking about.

Ok, we have established that articles are very important to a site and to business. Articles are crucial and to keep ahead in the game, a site must have content, it is imperative. There is one dilemma though, not many people like writing articles.

Many web site owners would rather spend their time on something else, and unless you're a big time company, you don't have the necessary resources to use on a pool of article writers. Public domain articles are articles freely given to the public for public use. You can do whatever you want with them. You can place them on your site, name them as yours, put them in a newsletter, its up to you. Always remember though that you will have to choose articles that are relevant to your site.

The downside to public domain articles is that since it is free for everybody, many of your competitors may have access to them as well. Since every site needs to be original and unique even though you have the same niche, this could be a predicament. You may also have to edit them a bit to place more keywords and keyword phrases and to make them better.

Another way to get free articles is to allow other sites which have the same subject or topic as yours to submit articles to your site. This would be only to augment your existing content or else all your articles would be leading to other sites since these articles would have resource boxes with them that could link or direct the readers to their site. That's why it is important to have your own articles; you cold use them to link your site to other sites as well.

But, to truly feel the impact of what a good article can do for you, go for original ones. There are many article writers who do part time and freelance article writing jobs that charge only minimal fees. You can get good articles that have all the keywords and keyword phrases you need and people are looking for.

The investment you made for these articles would be worthwhile because you could use them for all the benefits you could offer. You hold copyrights to them and you will be able to use them anyway you want.

Perhaps the 'keep is simple stupid' rule has become cliché, but it will always apply, and is often ignored. If you can say it in one sentence, do it. Don't try to turn it into a paragraph just to push in more keywords. If you need to fill more space, then find more information. Don't repeat what you've already said.

Easy Scanning - Easy Reading

Use subheadings and bulleted points to make it easy for the reader to find the information they want. Don't try to force them to read the entire article. When using bulleted points, bold or highlight the first words so they can easily see what that bullet is about.

Make your article easy to read...if you can't write it without a dictionary, people can't read it without one. Avoid technical jargon unless the article is industry specific. Even if you explain what the jargon means, use a substitute whenever possible if the article is for the general public.

If you can't write, don't try to. It takes experience to understand how to pull your audience in...not to mention some underlying talent. Even if the reader is scanning the article for information, the right wording will suck them into reading the entire article. They'll suddenly look up and realize they've read the whole thing.

To do this, your article should read like a conversation...but that doesn't mean it should sound the way you talk. Some people talk like a technical manual, and no one wants to read (or hear) a technical manual. Use an active voice, and don't be afraid to break some of the grammar rules you learned in English composition.

Make it Relevant

Know your audience before you write for them. If you want to attract roofers, then write about some of the new roofing tools and other things they want to hear about...even if it's not directly related to roofing. But don't publish articles telling them how to fix a leak in a rubber roof. They already know how and won't bother to read any more on the subject.

Follow these rules, and your articles will attract a larger audience...and eventually lead to conversions. Just remember: the fact that the content is there, doesn't make it worth reading...and your audience knows this.
