I write this article not because I want to slam anyone. The sole purpose is to put the whole content issue with articles to a screaming halt; I hope. I have read many reports claiming articles have a down side to the Internet, and that beast is Article Spam. One interesting factor, Article Spam really is a larger problem than expected. Article Marketing Spam has more components to it than just the (food) word spam. As defined by Jason Potash in his recent report "Why Many Internet Marketers Are Dead Wrong About The Right Way To Use (And Profit From) Content In 2006 And How They Will Quickly Paralyze Their Businesses As A Result!." "Here's what happened: In 2005, the search engine optimization (SEO) community began to take notice of submitting articles as an easy way to generate much needed back links to their web sites. Google was cracking down on reciprocal linking (more specifically, poorquality incoming links generated from link farms or spam sites). Everyone and their uncle began hiring ghostwriters, getting articles produced, and mass submitting them to dozens of article directories. Their back links grew like crazy... so did their rankings, and suddenly their web sites had "legs" since hundreds of other "authority" sites were one-way linking to them. It worked like a dream for a few months... then article spam started to become a REAL problem. Article directory owners across the world began to feel the pain of watching their weekly article submissions balloon by 400% (if not more). The problem? Up to 40% of the new articles they received were pure garbage and had to be deleted on the spot. And even some articles that were pretty good still got trashed because many of them made silly (amateur) mistakes that could easily be corrected. So, while the article spammers continue to submit dozens of crappy articles per week, the jokes is on them. Only a handful of their articles actually see the light of day. In fact, some article spammers even developed custom scripts/robots that go out and plow through article directories and force feed their articles to them a few dozen at a time. Their gameplan is quantity over quality. Keep submitting and eventually a few articles will stick.
Yes, some articles will sneak their way into the article directories. If you take shovels full of cow dung and repeatedly hurl them at a barn door, some of it will stick." ("Why Many Internet Marketers Are Dead Wrong About The Right Way To Use (And Profit From) Content In 2006 And How They Will Quickly Paralyze Their Businesses As A Result!" Jolt Marketing Inc.) Now Jason makes a very good point about the quality of reports written. I must make a confession here, I attended a Siena Heights University, in Adrian Michigan and during the course of earning my education I wrote a bazillion and one half papers of all types. I have learned to write and communicate my ideas in written form (I Hope!). Now we are in the techno age, and writing is required from everyone who participates. Basic knowledge of reading and writing is necessary to use the computer. With a good word processor software on a computer to assist in the correction of basic grammatical errors anyone can write respectable article. Respectable articles require some time and effort to think through what you are writing about. Structuring ideas to text, and formatting to a legible compilation. Now, the hard part is spell checking by using your word processors spell checker. When the writer eliminates all the green and red squiggles under their text, read the article out loud. Reading the article aloud is the easiest method for checking the flow of an article. If an article can be read without problems, you have got the article ready for submission. Submission is another point Jason makes in his report that creates article spam. Like link spam the search engines do not like to see an excessive amount of back links added at one time. Excessive back links is an unnatural progression to developing back links. A successful strategy is to build your back links slow. I personally choose about 10 links in 1 week. Article Spammers do article submissions in bulk of 1000's. The same strategy applies to article submission back links, build slow. Article submission using Article Submitter with greater control of how many submissions you do in a day, and control of the category your article is submitted into. Building your article back links slower, creates a more natural building progression, the search engines will not flag your web site as suspicious. Slow submission is difficult in a time when we are so geared to doing all of our tasks fast to get ahead of the competition. Getting ahead of the competition does not mean submitting 3,4,5, articles a day to the article repositories. How can anyone write 3,4,5, quality articles in one day? I am sure it is possible, but I desire to think my articles through and write quality articles. In conclusion, the natural way to build back links to your web sites, also applies to article submission. Good quality articles require some editing, and a little work but is necessary. Article Spam can be avoided if submissions are done with quality tools, and submitted to a specific number of repositories in a single day. In order to appease the search engines, web sites must grow and develop into a life of their own in a natural way. What the search engines looking for, more specifically, is quality content, and lots of it, updated frequently. Here are some guidelines for developing content for your site. Every web site has a variety of keywords and keyword phrases associated with it. These are carefully selected to entice visitors and bring popularity to the site. The site in turn should be designed around these keywords in order to be relevant and useful to users that come to the web site seeking those specific products. These keywords and keyword phrases should be the basis for your content development. Once you have you keywords in order it is time to start developing content. Writing content does not mean just listing out your keywords over and over again. Content needs to be coherent and useful to readers. Write quality descriptions about your products that inform and also captivate your visitors. Write content about your company that gives readers insight about your company as well as your industry. Place this content on the site in text format so when search engines come to visit they can read it too and pick up on your keyword phrases. Large web sites with lots of content tend to rank higher than small web sites. Developing content is one of the best ways to increase the size of your web site. Ideally, a web site should have twenty pages. Writing articles is another great way to develop content for your site. If you write a quality article about your products or services, you can submit them to other businesses or article submission sites in your industry. The more useful the articles, the more they will be spread around. When submitting the articles, be sure to put a link to your site so when people use the article you get a free link back to your site. Search engines are content hungry. It is one of the best ways for them to find out what the site is all about. The more content you have with the more keywords, the more the search engines will associate you with those keywords. The more you are associated with your keywords, the more likely search engines will display your site above others in the search results. Effective Web Sites with Keyword Rich Web ContentWriting for the Internet is a huge challenge. And this is the main reason why many companies have a separate section for web content writing services or have opted to hire web content writing services in India on a permanent basis to write for their sites. Web site articles and contents need to be changed or revised at least every week. If you're wondering if that's exaggerating it a bit too much, let me assure you, unless new information or updates are posted on the web sites every week, even every day, browsers will not be tempted to come back. It's similar to a shop window display. And every new revision means new articles. And nobody will be interested in reading articles that are dull. And in the long run this can affect you adversely. Another important aspect of web content writing is accuracy. If the information on the web site is false or inaccurate, it can lead to people being misled, which will not do much good for your business. So, the first step to effective web content writing services is a thorough understanding of the goals of your web site or your organization. In addition, the content should always be clear and easily understandable to the layman. So, try and avoid fancy language. And last but not the least, the web site should be easily and quickly available to a person browsing. Most internet users, unless they know which web site they're looking for use search engines to locate web sites on a particular area of interest. A well-written web site home page with keyword rich web site content will certainly perform better with search engines than otherwise, where search engine optimization is treated as an afterthought. Search engine optimization of a web site is a mixture of marketing and technology with keyword rich web content, i.e. content that specifically focus on your chosen keywords. Web Content, Web Copy or Web TextIn the world of the internet and search engines, one word on everybody's mind, and everyone's lips, is content. It has been tossed about so carelessly, so often, by so many people, in so many places, I'm not sure that anyone knows what it means. Copy and text have been all but forgotten. In ancient, pre-web times, content, copy and text were used interchangeably. (Check your thesaurus, each comes up with the other.) As a writer, I would receive requests for text or copy. Now, all I hear is content, content, content. Content has all the tongues wagging. And many heads shaking. It's not traditional written content they are babbling about, it's Web Content. Web Content Keywords are the only input Search Engines receive from users. Search Engines have built their worlds around keywords. And web sites are built around the demands and requirements of the Search Engines. Keywords are essential in developing Web Content. Users create keywords, Search Engines employ keywords, and writers must utilize those keywords in Web Content correctly or face the consequences. Overuse keywords and risk being disqualified. Omit them and risk being ignored. Search Engines provide guidelines for frequency (or density) and placement of these crucial keywords in Web Content. Unfortunately, each Search Engine uses different keyword densities. An overabundance of keywords for one Search Engine is a dearth for another. What is good for one goose, cooks the other; a never ending keyword dance. Keywords are inordinately important for Web Content but not the whole picture. Search Engines have an avowed preference for a relatively short page length of approximately 500 words; apparently spybots don't like to read much. The Search Engines employ sophisticated word analysis software; the writing better be good. And lastly, they have a declared aversion for spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and typos; it must be perfect. How to Write Web Content Insert plenty of keywords, but not too many, (though it is impossible to say how many). Use them, don't abuse them or be punished unmercifully. Repeat them endlessly, without being repetitious. Use them early and use them late. They must be seen without being noticed. There is enough contradictory advice to drive any writer crazy. And finally, don't focus on the Search Engines, write for the User, they insist over and over again. Right! Writing Web Content is not easy. The stringent and contradictory demands of the Search Engines can strain the abilities and sanity of any writer but those demands can be met. Overcome the page length limitation by using extensive hypertext. Differing densities are maddening; follow the guidelines - do the dance. Your word processor may have an auto summarize function similar to the spybot's word analysis software; learn to work with it. Use the grammar and spell checking software in your word processor but don't trust it; proof it yourself. Allow no error in your Web Content to pass uncorrected! Web Copy Web Text The web is a fast moving, interactive, hypertext medium. Readers are not known for their patience. Users are hyperactive, hyper-impatient, finger on the trigger; somewhere else is just a click away. Get their attention and get to the point. How to Write Web Text The reader has come for web content but doesn't like to read; not as big a paradox as it seems. Hand on the mouse, index finger poised on the clicker, the right words keep them interested, stop them from straying. Make your Web Content interactive. Keep the user busy. The web was founded as a hypertext medium and derives a great deal of power from it. Provide an abundance of internal and external links. Don't worry about losing the reader to another site. Every browser has a back button and it is the single most popular click on the Web. Give them what they want in a form they can understand. Give them what they came for: reliable information, verifiable facts and straight unadorned, unembellished truth in a simple, unembellished style. It's a novel idea but in the long run, it's the only thing that works. Web Content is highly stylized, keyword-rich text written to the demands and specifications of the Search Engines that hopefully satisfies the needs of the reader. Web Content must be readable and useable, written in a simple, concise, straightforward style. In the end, good, solid, accurate, reliable Web Content is what the search engines and the users are looking for.
