8 Ways to Promote New Content on YOUR Website

Welcome to the never-ending world of web site promotion!

Never ending? Well, not only must you promote your site when
you first create it, but then you must find ways to continue
to promote it.

And you must find ways to promote the site's new content
too.

This article covers 8 ways you can promote new site content.
It assumes that you understand the basics of web site
promotion.

===== Side Bar =====
If you're not sure of the basics, can I politely suggest you
visit my own free web site promotion guide
- http://www.HowIPromoteMyWebsite.com
===== Side Bar =====

Let's begin.

1) Tell Your E-Mail Subscribers

Tell the subscribers (or customers) on your mailing list.
This is an easy first step to take, to promote a site
redesign (or to promote new pages on your site).

Your mailing list is your best opportunity to really go into
detail about the new content, especially if this new
content benefits them. (It does, doesn't it?) If you have
built a good relationship with your subscribers, they might
even tell you how good/bad the new content is.

Always respond positively to this feedback.

===== Side Bar =====
Don't have a mailing list? Maybe you should think about
building one. There are plenty of free/cheap services that
will let you send a newsletter. To find out more, read my
article: Write A Newsletter To Get Site Visitors To Return!
- http://www.howipromotemyweb site.com/publish-news
===== Side Bar =====

2) Tell Your Friends, Family, Anyone

Tell friends, family and others who are in your address
book. Make your e-mail personal, and friendly and (better
still) just talk about how your site now benefits or
involves them.

3) Tell The Newsgroups/Forums

Tell the newsgroups and online forums about your new site.

This strategy works best if you are a regular contributor,
but there are many forums which contain a 'Review My Site'
section.

Again, if you focus on benefits, you have a much better
chance of people visiting your site.

A great place to find suitable newsgroups is
- http://groups.google.com

4) Tell The Search Engines?

DON'T just blast your new pages to all the search engines
and directories!

This may well seem like search engine spam to them, and your
new pages (or even your whole site) may get banned. Make
sure you check each search engine's policy regarding site
submission first. (For instance, some search engines (and
most directories) only require that you submit your home
page.)

Search engine policies change regularly, so find out from
others by visiting a search engine forum. An excellent place
to find such advice is
- http://www.searchengineforums.com

Here's what I did. I built a site map, and added links to my
new content to the site map. (I visited searchengineforums
first, obviously!)
- http://www.shoptour.co.uk/site-map.shtml

5) Find Other Promotion Sources

Search engines are not the only way to promote your site.

For example, webmaster resource sites, freebie sites, and
even Britney Spears and Harry Potter fanclub sites may all
quite like to know about your new site content. Whatever
your site is about, there's a site resource dedicated to it!

For example:

* Got a free SMS site, then add it to this site?
- http://www.TextMeFree.com

* Got a new worldwide competition, why not add it here?
- http://www.loquax.com

* Got a great freebie, add it here?
- http://www.thefreesite.com

Use your imagination, and do a search on Google.

6) Write An Article

Writing articles is a proven method of promoting new
content. And there are so many sites willing to accept
well-written articles.

Don't think you know how to write an article? Just write
about what you know or do. It *isn't* difficult, and writing
articles can generate lots of web site traffic. Here's an
article (on writing articles) that can help!
- http://www.howipromotemyweb site.com/write-articles.html

7) Don't Forget Pay-Per-Click Search Engines!

Using pay-per-click (PPC) search engines is an *ideal* way
to promote new site content.

You can either add more keywords to a current PPC campaign,
driving visitors to your new pages, or you can start a new
PPC campaign.

Either way, you should have traffic visiting your new
content in a matter of days (or immediately, if you use
Google AdWords).

These are the most popular pay-per-click search engines:
- http://www.overture.com
- http://www.espotting.com
- http://adwords.google.com/

And you can learn more about the basics of using pay-per-
click search engines via my article: Pay Per Click To
Guarantee Targeted Traffic!
- http://www.howipromotemyweb site.com/pay-per-click

8) Just Be Creative!

Be creative, and re-use what you've already got!

What do I mean by this? Well, it could mean getting people
to visit your new content by:

* Updating your newsletter welcome message, accordingly
* Updating relevant email reports
* Changing the content of a pop-up window
* Creating a new email signature file
* Sending a useful tip to a magazine or newspaper
* Updating existing pages to link to your new content
* Write a press release. (This article show you how!
- http://www.howipromotemyweb site.com/press-release .)

As I say, web site-promotion is never-ending; there are
always more ways of promoting your site. Just make sure you
do something to get people to visit your new web pages, eh!

Everything on the Internet is Content!

Before you start to think that this is another SEO technique that may or may not work depending on the current algorithms of the search engines, think about it...

EVERYTHING on the internet is CONTENT.

The internet is a veritable treasure trove of information. Good, bad, valuable or not, the internet is all about providing information to people. That is why smart internet marketers know that people want information from their web sites - not just SEO enriched pages of advertising.

The loopholes that search engine optimizers have been trying to use for high ranking in the search engine has created a plethora of sites that boast high keyword ratios, thousands of irrelevant hyperlinks and sometimes even redirection. These redirected web sites try to create an optimized web page that the search engines will rank high but actually redirect the viewer to a less search engine friendly site.

Well, the search engines caught on. The web sites that were getting the highest placements weren't always providing quality information or useful content. In fact, they not only lowered the ranking of these sites - they even removed them from the listings completely.

This sent a shock wave through the internet community and smart marketers realized that there is only one sure way to convince the search engines that they were meant to be at the top: Quality Content.

Not only do the search engines love content, but visitors do too. By providing visitors with useful information and relevant links to other sites, they come back again and again! And that's not the only benefit.

Because web site owners are now hungry for content, there is a huge market for informative articles that other web site owners can use on their sites. By offering information to these sites in exchange for a hyperlink to your web site, you get even more exposure, both to search engines AND customers.

Writing content for the major article directories and including a signature or "about the author" at the end of the article with a link back to your web site is one of the best ways of generating free web site traffic. If the article is well written and about a strong niche topic, the article will get picked up by many web sites for their own sites, which can provide you with a wonderful set of viral links to your site. The more frequently your article gets picked up, the more opportunity there is for another webmaster to see it and pick it up, too.

List Of High Fiber Foods And Fiber Content

A list of high fiber foods helps you know which foods to include in daily meal planning. Obtaining adequate fiber is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. However, too many people do not obtain sufficient fiber each day, which results in poor bowel function and constipation.

Whether obtained from the list of high fiber foods or from fiber supplements, the recommended daily fiber consumption should be about 25-30 grams for an adult. The typical adult in the USA averages about 11 grams of fiber per day according to the American Dietetic Association.

The walls of plant cells are the sources of dietary fiber. Here are typical high fiber foods along with the approximate number of grams of fiber they contain. Fiber contents shown below on the list of high fiber foods are for a food quantity of 1/2 cup unless otherwise noted:

* Bananas, 3 grams - medium 8" long

* Beans, 6-10 grams - baked beans, black beans, great northern beans, kidney beans, garbanzos, pinto beans, white beans

* Berries, 4-5 grams - blackberries, raspberries

* Bran Cereals, 5-10 grams - All-Bran, Bran Buds, 100% Bran, Raisin Bran

* Bread, 4-7 grams - 2 slices whole wheat, pumpernickel, seven-grain

* Broccoli, 4-5 grams

* Brussels Sprouts, 2 grams

* Carrots, 3-4 grams

* Dried Figs, 10 grams - 3 figs

* Fruit, 4 grams - medium apple, medium pear

* Green Beans, 2 grams - broad beans, pole beans, snap beans

* Greens, 4-6 grams - beet greens, collards, kale, spinach, turnip greens

* Lentils, 6 grams

* Lima Beans - 4-6 grams

* Peas, 7-9 grams - black-eyed peas, green peas

* Potatoes, 4-5 grams - medium baked Idaho or sweet potato

* Sweet Corn, 5 grams

Using the list of high fiber foods and including more of the foods from the list can help increase daily fiber consumption so important for normal bowel function. Also important is that adequate liquid be present for good bowel function. Each fiber particle will actually absorb liquid in the colon and help facilitate the desired regular movement along in the bowels.

If you make changes to your diet to include more of the foods from the list of high fiber foods, take it easy. Just add a few grams at a time so the intestinal tract can adjust. If after a few weeks you are still not having a daily bowel movement, you may wish to add a fiber supplement. The best fiber supplements are psyllium made from ground-up psyllium seeds or rice bran. Don't expect to notice better bowel movements overnight as it may take several weeks for your body and elimination system to improve. The payoff will be that wastes are eliminated along with the toxins from your system instead of your body reabsorbing them.

Read more about constipation at http://www.safemenopausesolutions.com/constipation.html plus fiber supplements easily available online. Olinda Rola is President of InfoSearch Publishing and webmaster of http://www.safemenopausesolutions.com - a web site of natural health information and articles.

Choosing A Web Site Content Management System

As the saying goes on the web "Content is King." There is no argument that if you are going to have an effective Internet presence you must have current, dynamic content that gives your visitors reasons to come back time and again. While content may be king there seems to be little discussion about the optimal way to manage this content for small to medium sized businesses. Have you ever noticed that when your building the web site you have plenty of helping hands but once the site is launched and the daily grind of support kicks in it becomes harder and harder to find that help. This is why it is so important to evaluate your Content Management System (CMS) for you web site in the development stages. Every web site has some form of content management system in place, except for those that never change. The CMS can be as informal as an email to the web developer or a multi-million dollar computer program that warehouses data from several different databases. In focusing on small to medium sized businesses I have decided to eliminate the big dollar systems and concentrate on the three major types of CMS's available.

The first type of CMS is the default traditional and most widely used method I call the manual update system. This usually requires sending the information to the web developer. The web developer then utilizes their FTP program and HTML coding skills to make the requested changes. The changes are then reviewed and approved by the requester. The problem with this model is that the web developer is usually a high priced contractor and not an in-house resource. This means that you end paying a hefty price for web site changes. The cost of web site changes becomes a budget issue so you end up reducing the number of changes you make to your site in turn reducing its overall value.

The second type of CMS is the WYSIWYG system. This model allows the web site owner to use one of the graphical web development tools on the market today such as FrontPage or Net Objects Fusion. These are great programs that allow you to make changes to the web site in a graphical look. The changes are simple and if you configure the software correctly you can update your web site with a few clicks of the mouse. The problem with this model is that you become dependent on the WYSIWYG tool. If you can't get to FrontPage then you can't make your change unless you resort back to our first model. But now it gets a little trickier. These WYSIWYG tools create very convoluted HTML code so manual changes can become very time consuming. Another draw-back of the model is that if your company utilizes a tool like this to create their site they may limit themselves to the graphical templates that come with the software. You end up getting a site that looks pretty much like everybody else's. Furthermore, I think it is important for any company planning on building or revamping their web site to meet with a web development company to at least review the best practices for web development.

The final type of CMS is what I like to refer to as an integrated CMS. This type of Content Management Systems is built directly into the site during development. In order to make changes the web owner simply enters in a secure URL, logins and makes changes to the site without having to know any HTML or FTP commands. Changes are instant and all the user needs is a web browser and access to the Internet. This has been a very successful model for our company because it allows us to build web sites that empower the web owners. Web owners can make changes to their sites as often as they like without the need for a high priced web developer. Of course the cost of a site with an integrated CMS will be a little higher but the overall cost of ownership of the site will be dramatically reduced over time.

Regardless of the model they choose, web site owners must acknowledge that their web site does come with a Content Management System installed. An educated web site owner will ensure that their site has a CMS that allows them to get the most out their web site.
