5 Biggest Blogging Mistakes

1. You have your own domain name and web hosting but you decide to host your weblog elsewhere. Why? If your web site is www.anythinghere.com then your weblog should be hosted at www.anythinghere.com. There is no reason for you to use an external weblog service. First of all you are putting the control of your weblog in their hands- what happens when they decide to erase it? - Believe me, it happens. The second reason this is silly is because you should want to brand yourself and your business. Using another company's domain is great for their branding but not yours.

2. Long weblog entries bore people. Don't be afraid to break up entries, you don't have to post the whole story in one day. Also, make use of bullet points, numbered lists, and pictures.

3. Save the long words for your doctoral dissertation. We know you are smart, we know you have a nice vocabulary but we don't want to read "magnanimous" when "noble" will do. Keep it simple.

4. A RSS subscription option is very important. Don't be afraid of it. Don't run from it. If you want people to read your weblog on a regular basis then you have to make it easy for them to do so. Having an "enter your email here" box is a nice start. But if I have 25 blogs I read, I am not going to want 25 different emails coming to me each time someone updates.

5. Writing for search engines and contextual advertising is not the best way to make money. Sure, you may get a few adsense clicks here and there but do you really think that people will come back for more if your sentences read like "I think you should make money with your financial payday loan so you can work at home and be rich with this banking information that I will give you for more money." To put it simply, write for people-not for machines.

Beginners Guide to Blogging

Setting Up Your Blog

Blogging is a lucrative source of profit and blogs are easy to set up and maintain. Imagine a life where you are paid to write on stuff that interests you, whenever you want, wherever you are. The mere flexibility of blogging makes it easy for you to just kick back, relax and go on a vacation whenever you feel like it.

In this article, we are going to look into the profitability of a weblog and set up a weblog of our own at no cost! Interested? Read on!

First, we need to obtain a weblog . There are several options - host a weblog on your own domain or get a free weblog . For starters, let's talk about the free blogs. You can obtain a free weblog at www.blogger.com <http://www.blogger.com>; or the newer (and better!) www.wordpress.com. If you are a techie, you must have heard of Wordpress, a free weblog engine that is robust and infinitely expandable.

Blogger.com is actually owned by Google, so it will be detected on Google's radar faster and you will be indexed faster. Wordpress.com, however, is a relatively new option so I have no comparison on the speed of getting indexed by search engines. However, Wordpress is better in the sense that it has more advanced features such as Trackbacks and Categories. You can also manage your sidebar links more efficiently (more about this later).

Now familiarize yourself by posting your first post on your weblog and tinkering around with the options and templates.

Here are a few common "blog-related" words to help you out:

1) Permalink - Permalink stands for permanent link, which is a URL (uniform resource locator) that leads to an individual post that you make in your weblog . 2) Trackback - When you post about someone else's weblog post elsewhere, your post will show up in their "trackback" section. This feature, however, is not available with a Blogger.com account. 3) Pinging - Blogging seems to be paired with pinging almost every time either one is mentioned nowadays. Pinging is actually the action where a certain aggregator is notified whenever your weblog is updated, so that the aggregator may show the newest post of your weblog on their web site. This is a useful way to gaining traffic, which we shall discuss later.

For now, I shall leave you testing out your new weblog and the features that come included with it. In the next articles, we shall discuss the many ways we can gain profit from a weblog , as well as tips on how to write posts that keep visitors glued and keep coming back for more!

Blog Content

Now we're going to discuss the type of content that is suitable for your weblog in order to make it profitable. First off, I want you to understand that there is no fixed scope that your weblog should have, which means you can write about whatever you're interested in.

However, the difference between a profitable weblog and a non-profitable weblog is the way the weblog is written. Just imagine, would you prefer to read your university professor's lecture notes or the latest novel by your favourite author?

You may prefer to read the novel because it appeals more to your interest, or because it is not as mind-numbing as the lecture notes by your professor. However, the most important point is people like to read "light" stuff most of the time. You see, when people log on to your weblog , they are not only looking for information - they are also looking for information they can obtain easily, and better still in a relaxed manner.

So, to attract more visitors as well as to keep your current visitors coming back for more, it is very important to add a human touch to your weblog posts. This can be done by simply imagining you're talking about a certain topic with your personal friend. An extra bonus for your readers would be a great sense of humour, so try to add funny comments in your articles where they are suitable.

Another important key point is to avoid addressing your reader as a plural unit. What I really mean is you should not write as if you're preparing a speech. Instead, you should write as if you're having a conversation to a single person because this will make your visitor think of you more as a personal friend rather than a person of higher authority.

Besides that, it is also very useful to establish your own personality through your words. Human beings are very curious creatures, so naturally your visitors would want to know as much about you as the information you're offering them.

Having a distinctive personality in your weblog would make a world's difference between your weblog about gadgets and all the other blogs about gadgets out there. This is a lot like creating your own brand name, where people immediately remember your weblog 's name when they need to find out information about gadgets, just like how people immediately think of McDonald's for fastfood or Nike for sportswear.

So, the lesson for today is to simply write as an equal friend to your visitors, write to them as if you're talking to a single person and establish your own personality on your weblog .

Blogging On The Go, Aka Mobile Blogging

Blogging - What is it that attracts people so much?

Blogging is a type of web site that lets you post in your comments, suggestions or read about anything being discussed in the weblog that catches your interest. It is a way for people to interact, discuss or debate about a certain topic. Think of it as a small group of people debating or sharing comments about a particular topic.

One of the many reasons of why blogs are very popular is that it is subjective and not objective. If you read one weblog , you will feel like you know the person who wrote it. It is a form of communication where it does not address itself to a wider audience but instead, it communicates on a person-to-person level. In this way, people are more comfortable posting comments in blogs than in other types of forums.

In a world where communication technology is steadily developing, blogging is one of the best ways of communicating with other people. Today, there are a lot of devices which you can use to create, maintain and update your blogs. One type is mobile blogging or moblogging.

Mobile blogging or moblogging is a type of blogging where it means that you can weblog on the go from a portable mobile device like your cellular phone. One great reason to consider mobile blogging is if you want someone to be part of an event without being physically in the event.

One form of mobile blogging or moblogging is through communication devices such as Bluetooth or in your own palm top or pocket PC. There is not much difference between a traditional weblog and mobile weblog or moblog, the only difference is that in moblog, you can weblog on the go.

Today, with the latest mobile phones getting more and more affordable, anyone can buy these devices. You can customize it, take pictures with it and you can also surf the internet with it. Mobile phones are also very useful for blogging. Aside from the fact that you can go online with mobile phones, you can also weblog with it while you're on the go. With it, you can share stories, photos, videos on your weblog .

However, to create your own mobile weblog , you should first determine if your mobile phone network provider can support online surfing through the internet. You should also determine what kind of phone supports for this kind of service.

Another benefit of moblogging is that if you get inspired to tell a story or you took some great pictures on your road trip and want to share them to the world, you won't have to wait until you get your hands on your computer and share your thoughts and pictures in the internet. With moblogging, you can weblog anytime and anywhere.

To make it much easier for you, you should first make your weblog web site on your computer. Then, you should register your mobile phone number to activite mobile blogging services. And, you can now post in your comments anywhere you are with your mobile phone.

With mobile blogging, you can even benefit if you are buying a particular thing like a car. For example, you are now in a used car lot, you then can't decide on what car you want and would want to consult your friend about it.

You then take a picture of the cars you like and send them to your blogging web site. You then call your friend and told him or her that you need his or her opinion about the cars. You tell them that the pictures are in your blogging site and ask them to take a look at it and tell them what they think.

Moblogging is a very convenient way to communicate with people and also update your weblog site even without being physically in front of a desktop computer.

How To Make Money Blogging

After you create a weblog that is interesting, now it is time to start making money. The second step of getting visitors is the most important, if you plan on making money. The third step is choosing how you will make money from your weblog . You should try to keep your weblog on the same topic on all your post, being that you can have an unlimited number of blogs, you can have a weblog for any and every topic you choose. Make sure to start a new weblog if you are totally off the main subject of the weblog that you are posting to.

Blogger and several other free weblog companies make it very simple to have a brand new weblog up and running in a matter of a few minutes. Try not to post an article about dogs on a weblog about golf. Once you have an interesting weblog on one particular topic, the best place to start making money is Google AdSense. Blogger has made it very simple to add AdSense ads to your weblog . The ads that show up on your weblog will be targeted towards the topic of your weblog , which means if you have a weblog about dogs, the ads that show up on your weblog will deal with pets. It's like Google is paying you to advertise on your weblog .

Another way to make money with your weblog is with affiliate programs. Companies will pay you good money to advertise their products, and all you have to do is put a link or banner on your weblog leading to that companies web site. Once a sale is made the company gives you a commission. That is the reason you should pick one topic for your weblog . If you want to have a weblog about your life, by all means do it, but have other blogs about specific topics if you want to make money.

Once you find a topic that interest you, look for affiliate programs for that particular topic. With the dog weblog example, there are several dog training products that you can have links and banners to on a dog weblog that will make good money. ClickBank is the top company when it comes to affiliate products, they have over 10,000 products to choose from. Browse their products to see which ones you would like to promote. Obviously you want to pick something that fits the topic of your weblog , but don't limit yourself to just one, you can change a product you are promoting with a few clicks.

The internet is the essence of marketing, by that I mean, every word in an ad matters, every color, where the ad is located on your weblog , whether is is blinking or not, and the color of the text. It might not seem like all of those things matter, but the fact is, everything that you decide matters. The good thing is you can experiment with how your weblog looks as much as you want. There are several e-books written on how you should place and where you should place them, in the beginning, just go with the basic weblog set-up until you get the hang of things.
