What started as daily diaries posted online for the whole world to see has now become an extra tool for those specialising in search engine optimisation, as blogs often contain good relevant content that certain search engines like. It was only a matter of time before I also joined the blogging scene, with a daily talk about breakdown cover, a web site I own with my Breakdown Cover Webblog. Every day I would and go and sit down to think of something new to say, that would intrigue my web visitors to keep them coming back for more. Such an easy task I thought, write a few personal words about a subject close to my heart, get loads of readers and return visitors. That was the theory anyway. The reality has been just a bit different with a confused webmaster looking at a blank screen, wondering just what do I write today? My heart is telling me that this weblog is not really what I want to do. I don't have so many different ways of writing about the same thing whizzing around in my mind every day. My final conclusion to my blogging is this, I only do it because search engines like it and search engines are king if you want visitors to your site. My breakdown cover weblog not only has days missing from its listings but weeks and even months in some cases, because I just can't be inspired to write about a car insurance policy. I can' even say that when I do write a my writing is of any quality.
Eventually I decided to read other people blogs to get inspiration, what is the quality of blogs out there and what subjects could I relate to? I found a few good quality information sources, but most of them contained irrelevant substandard content, that was written for themselves only or again just to add content to their web sites. I am clearly a not alone. It is a shame that blogging is such an important tool for search engine optimisation, with many big sites actually employing professional bloggers. Without his tool, those who wish to share their ideas would have a far better chance of being found and their blogs read. I believe that only those who loved the process would spend he time and therefore the quality would be better and more readable. However I do not have much choice in the matter and every few days, weeks and on the days when my brain cells get in gear I find something to contribute to my site. Of course, there those who know how to weblog and do it very well. If you enjoy search engine optimisation visiting Matt Cutts weblog is an essential part of your week. He is someone who works within a large search engine company and shares his thoughts with webmasters out there. There are now many Blogging sites too, that allow those who do not own a web site to have their weblog section. I find it difficult though to find good content though, having to check out several blogs before finding anything that interests me. He also is webmaster to Home Contents Insurance Blogging Part 2: Blog ContentToday, we’re going to discuss the type of content that is suitable for your weblog in order to make it profitable. First off, I want you to understand that there is no fixed scope that your weblog should have, which means you can write about whatever you’re interested in. However, the difference between a profitable weblog and a non-profitable weblog is the way the weblog is written. Just imagine, would you prefer to read your university professor’s lecture notes or the latest novel by your favourite author? You may prefer to read the novel because it appeals more to your interest, or because it is not as mind-numbing as the lecture notes by your professor. However, the most important point is people like to read “light” stuff most of the time. You see, when people log on to your weblog , they are not only looking for information – they are also looking for information they can obtain easily, and better still in a relaxed manner. So, to attract more visitors as well as to keep your current visitors coming back for more, it is very important to add a human touch to your weblog posts. This can be done by simply imagining you’re talking about a certain topic with your personal friend. An extra bonus for your readers would be a great sense of humour, so try to add funny comments in your articles where they are suitable. Another important key point is to avoid addressing your reader as a plural unit. What I really mean is you should not write as if you’re preparing a speech. Instead, you should write as if you’re having a conversation to a single person because this will make your visitor think of you more as a personal friend rather than a person of higher authority. Besides that, it is also very useful to establish your own personality through your words. Human beings are very curious creatures, so naturally your visitors would want to know as much about you as the information you’re offering them. Having a distinctive personality in your weblog would make a world’s difference between your weblog about gadgets and all the other blogs about gadgets out there. This is a lot like creating your own brand name, where people immediately remember your weblog ’s name when they need to find out information about gadgets, just like how people immediately think of McDonald’s for fastfood or Nike for sportswear. So, the lesson for today is to simply write as an equal friend to your visitors, write to them as if you’re talking to a single person and establish your own personality on your weblog .
