Blogging Is a Good Thing

In the 'good old days' - about three years ago - you used to keep in-touch with your customers using phone calls, email messages and face to face meetings. Nowadays the world has changed. People expect even more frequent updates, yet it's nearly impossible to meet with every business contact on a regular basis.

Thankfully, blogging has come to the rescue. Setting up a weblog on your web site - and having an associated RSS feed - means you can keep in constant touch with your clients and potential customers. Plus you don't have to email them and they can get your latest news without having to visit your web site.

Whenever you add new content to your weblog , the RSS Feed automatically gets updated in everyone's Reader program or web browser. That means you are guaranteed to be able to keep in touch with clients and prospects. You don't have to do anything other than produce the content. Equally, you don't face the problems of email filters and anti-spam programs blocking your email. Furthermore, people tend to read RSS Feeds because they have subscribed to them whereas they tend to ignore non urgent emails.

As you can see, there are several advantages to Blogs and RSS Feeds. But it doesn't stop there. Search engines love them. That's because blogs provide fresh and new content - precisely what searchers are looking for. Hence the search engines are actively pushing blogs higher up the search engine ranking. This means if you don't have a weblog for your business, you are seriously reducing your chances of a high search engine ranking. You need a weblog nowadays to get noticed by the search engines

So how does this all work? A weblog is really a fancy name for a web page that gets updated regularly. It's nothing special. There are several methods of writing 'blogs', but they are nothing more than computer programs which allow you to easily update a web page. Far and away the easiest way to start a weblog is with a web site called

However, for keeping in touch with your customers, RSS is the key. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. What this means is that your weblog can be automatically delivered to people who want to read it - you don't have to send it to them and neither do they have to come and collect it. All they need is the address of your RSS Feed and their RSS Newsreader can do the job for them. There are several RSS readers available and new web browsers incorporate the ability to read RSS feeds and keep them updated.

So, blogging is essential. Not only does it improve your web presence, it also means you can keep in touch with clients and prospects more easily. And all the marketing research you can find will tell you that keeping in regular touch with your customers is an important component in gaining new business. So get blogging!

Internet Marketing By Blogging

Blogging has been practiced for years. But it's just recently that it has been considered as one of the addicting fads. Many people have resorted to blogging as an outlet for their emotions, a little online nook where they can blurt out whatever just bugs them or whatever makes them feel elated. Savvy marketers have also discovered that blogging is one of the best Internet marketing methods that won't break your bank account.

Just what exactly is blogging? Blog is the widely used term that refers to web log. In a nutshell, a weblog is like an online journal. A weblog could be set up to no cost at all, and can be used for just for the fun of it or most importantly for business reasons.

Blogging for your Internet business is one surefire and easy way to boost the visibility of your products and services. Here are a few ways to boost your internet advertising with the help of a weblog :

1. Make your clients or customers abreast on your web site's alterations. Your new services, products and affiliate web sites could also be announced through your weblog .

2. Share your opinions, advice or reviews on specific services or products that are related to your business. Publishing is a very easy process with blogging.

3. Keep track of your business objectives and plans through open writing. Your weblog content can be easily stored through archives. What could be better than searchable information that could be easily accessed by anyone browsing the web, right?

4. Include links that will fetch back links and subsequently improve your ranking on search engines. This could be better executed through putting well-written articles in your web site. Affiliate links could also be included in your weblog to earn additional income.

5. Collect response through the ability of blogs to fetch comments from your weblog readers. You can learn and improve your products and services through the comments and feedback left by your readers.

6. Connect easily with other bloggers. When other bloggers notice that you have something good in your weblog , they will put you in their favorite lists that will automatically link you to their blogs.

So, how do you set up a weblog ? Here are some of the options you can make use of to take advantage of this fun way to advertise your Internet business.

Boost your blogging productivity with My Yahoo !

Boost your blogging productivity with My Yahoo !

As I'm not a professional blogger, I need to maintain my weblog while having a full-time job ( and a life for that matter -)). I've been looking into several ways to become more effective in maintaining and writing a weblog . All the time I spend with blogging can actually be divided in 4 large chunks :

1.Setup and maintenance of my weblog : setting up the weblog , installing plugins, weblog design, ... 2.Traffic generation and analysis: search engine & directory submission, search engine optimization ,.. 3.Sourcing : finding good sources or material to write about 4.Writing posts : writing new posts from the collected information

After your blogs construction phase, there is obviously ongoing work on maintenance & traffic generation but relatively less then time spent with sourcing and article writing. Especially so when unique content is intended as a traffic generator ! Sourcing is the most obvious part to save time and involves :

1.Collecting enough relevant fixed sources ( writing about related content) which are typically RSS feeds, mails or links to sites. 2.Collecting link or RSS directories as a starting point to new related sources 3.Search engines

Of course, finding the right sources can be time consuming but even more is reading through all your existing sources. Although I used some very good tools to read E-mail, browse RSS feeds and organize bookmarks, I have been looking for the one tool that bundles all of these ( for free ). I found this combination in My Yahoo and more ...

If you sign up for a Yahoo account, you start immediately by customizing your own My Yahoo page ! You define your own layout and theme, create one or more pages and select the content of your interest for each page. Reordering can be done by simple drag & drop. To understand how powerful this tool can be in optimizing your sourcing productivity, I'll explain how I optimized my own page to optimize productivity :

To start, I divide My Yahoo in several pages : a home page where all my key content appears and some side pages where I put focussed content on.

The home page is divided in 3 columns : 2 sidebars and a larger middle section.

The left sidebar contains 2 modules :

1.A Search box which allows you to immediately start searching topics using the Yahoo search engine. Searches can be personalized in order to find the most relevant content according your preferences. 2.A Calendar that lists your tasks to do, Eg. Plan to research on a certain topic or to write a new article at a certain day. Besides using it as a weblog time management tool, it can also be synchronized with your existing appointments on your palm or outlook.

The middle column contains :

1.A mail preview box to preview your incoming mail 2.A notepad to list new ideas or draft concepts for your next posts 3.A list of modules previewing the latest posts from your key RSS sources

The right sidebar contains :

1.A module to Add content from Yahoo's listings or any other RSS feed. An even more valuable sourcing technique is the possibility to create your own custom RSS feeds based on keywords ! 2.A message center to list incoming messages 3.A bookmarks section where you can links to your favorite blogs or sites 4.A module that allows to browse Yahoo's directory

Besides my home page, I've created a number of pages which contain news for specific topics. For these pages, I choose to have a two-column layout with only a right sidebar which is pretty much the same sidebar as on the home page, except that I also inserted the search box. The left part contains only news items on a specific topic, from an existing RSS feed or one or more custom feeds containing keywords, relevant to that topic, Eg. Adsense.

Last I'd like to sum-up what I believe to be the key benefits of using My Yahoo as a blogging productivity tool :

1.It bundles several tools in one : mail reader, RSS news reader & aggregator, agenda, sticky notes, search engine, online bookmarking and browsing Yahoo directories. 2.RSS feeds can be easily added and categorized using pages, preview preferences can be easily customized ( Eg. Preview posts from last 3 days ). A single topic can be completely previewed by scrolling down which I find more responsive then browsing different folders and clicking an RSS feed to preview it's topics as most RSS readers do. 3.It is web-based and thus can be easily accessed from any pc you are working on. On top of that, the tool is very performing and responsive, in contrary to most web-based applications ! 4.Yahoo is continuously developing new amazing programs which provide more and more usefull tools like alerts when new content is found on a topic of interest, Yahoo 360 which includes the ability to weblog , Yahoo groups to build your community and much more ... 5.Last but not least : it is completely free !!!

Tired of SEO Theories and Algorithms: Try Blogging

Most of the local business owners, who I know, still don't have a web presence -for a combination of reasons. Many business owners are from my age group and don't feel comfortable setting up a web site. So, they pay somebody else to do it or it never gets done. There are a multitude of reasons to avoid launching your business on the web, and all of them are "lame excuses."

As I travel around town, I get to hear all the excuses. "I'm too old," "Our business isn't the Internet type," and "I don't know HTML." You can tell everybody else those excuses, but do you want to grow your business or not? The vast majority of small businesses fail, and the Internet is the cheapest form of advertising available.

If haven't launched a web site or Blog, you are delaying business marketing progress for nothing. Take a computer class, learn from your kids, or learn from your grandchildren, but start as soon as possible. Perhaps, your grandchild can earn some money teaching you how to make even more money.

Blogs are easy to start with, since you don't need to have any HTML knowledge. You can also go to Blogger, and get a free Blog. It might take you 10 to 15 minutes to set up and start posting information right away.

Some web site hosts work like that too, but let's assume you have a site of some kind. Did you know your web site host might have a Blog feature built in, at no extra charge? If you have this feature, you can easily build a commercial Blog.

For a small business, with a web site and commercial Blog, you should be able to establish your natural search engine rankings. Sometimes, these are called "organic rankings" and you don't have to pay a penny for them. It may take a few months or more to establish yourself, and you should make regular posts.

For optimum results, your regular posts can be daily, a few times per week, or once a week. More postings are much better and will have significant impact on your rankings. Search engines love frequent posts, such as those found in Blogs.

Instead of worrying about Google algorithms, and SEO(search engine optimization) theories, go back to the basics and boost your rankings with content. Most of us have heard, "Content is King," and it is totally true.

So what do you say about your business? Tell your established customers and prospects about your service and products. Explain what your unique selling proposition (USP) is. This is what makes you different from similar businesses in your town.

When you have new products, or are looking for feedback about new product development, a Blog is extremely useful. Your customers and prospects can leave you feedback, so marketing research is very easy.

Lastly, don't shy away from a "gold mine." Free advertising is too valuable to ignore. Blogs are the advertising bargain of the decade and possibly, of the 21st century.
