The power of blogging.

First and formost what is a Blog? A weblog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a weblog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a weblog is a "blogger."

The growth of weblog usage over the last year has been incrediable. Blog readership increased from 17% of internet users to 27% in just 9 months. The number of weblog authors has increased from 3% in July 2002, 5% at the beginning of 2004, and 7% by late November 2004.

A quick search on the net for blogs and you find that not only are the general public using them as a way of electronically noteing their feelings and thoughts but also businesses are using them as an informal way of updating their clients of products and services.

It seems that when it comes to blogging big businesses and small businesses are on the same playing field. A weblog offers any business the opportunity to communicate with employees, and customers, sharing knowledge and expertise.

As you may or may not have realised is that blogging is a big plus and if used correctly can provide an interesting and effective way to increase brand identity and awareness.

My personal web design company (Able Net Design) has seen an increase in interest of blogs and its use with our own customers. It seems that everyone is jumping on this new system, as a cheap and effective way to spread the word.

A quick google search for the term "business blogging" returns 11,200,000 results. There are even companies poping up everywhere as weblog consultants, which can help set up a weblog that you will get the most out of.

Is blogging really as good as everyone thinks, well i am certainly having some fun with it and am sure if it didn't work it would have died by now.

The only catch is that these guys show an Adsense ad at the top of the page - but so what! You can still use it to promote your business or other web sites! I do not make any money from telling you this - just the satsisfaction of knowing I am helping my fellow webmasters and marketers find quality free web hosting! Check it out! It's worth it - it's free!

But what are people blogging about? Well people are blogging about everything and anything and there are some reports that people are making a nice little income from it aswell.

Income off a weblog how can that be? That is the same question i asked when i first heard about it. I would have thought that the process to making money of a weblog would have been quite involved however I have discovered that it is quite the opposite.

It seems that with the use of strategicly placed advertisements and a large amount of traffic bloggers are utilising the paid to click type of advertisements, to earn profits.

Now i thought this has to be tested, so i impletemented a few different paid to click advertisements on my blogs to see how they go. It took me little over 10 minutes to change my weblog templates and implement these advertisements.

So with the ads up and running i decided to continue posting as usual to see what happens. Well i can say that im not going to get rich quick. However i assume that the more traffic you have the more clicks you will get, and since my blogs are relatively new i didn't have high hopes. But all in all it is a fun way to keep the bloging interesting.

The blogging revolution just seems to keep on getting bigger and bigger with Google and Yahoo releasing its on Blog search engine and others like Technorati which would be the most well known weblog search engine. Technorati claims to be tracking 20.1 million sites, and if you view their top 100 blogs you will see that the topics which are being blogged about are endless and unique in every category you could think of.

For more information on blogs and how you can get one check out our site (ablenetdesign.com) or read my online marketing weblog (ablenetdesign.blogspot.com) there will be more information on blogs posted in their as time goes on im sure of it.

Is Blogging Necessary to Your Internet Business?

Almost three years ago - We used to keep in-touch with your customers using phone calls, email messages and face to face meetings. Today the world has altered. Clients require even more continual updates, yet it's almost impractical to meet with every business contact on a routine basis.

Thankfully, Blogging has appeared to the salvation. Setting up a Blog on your web site - and having a comparable RSS feed - means you will be able to keep in continual touch with your clients and possible customers. Moreover you don't have to contact them and they can get your most recent news without having to visit your web site.

Consequently how does this all operate? A Blog is really a fancy name for a web page that gets updated continually. It's nothing special. There are various methods concerning writing 'Blogs', however they are nothing more than computer programs which allow you to easily update a web page. Far and away the simplest way to set up a Blog is with a web site-titled blogger.com.

Nevertheless, for keeping in touch with your customers, RSS is the key. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. What this means is that your Blog be able to be automatically delivered to clients who want to read it - you don't need to send it to them and neither do they have to come and pick it up. All they need is the address of your RSS Feed and their RSS Newsreader can do the assignment for them. There are many RSS readers available and new web browsers combine the capacity to read RSS feeds and keep them updated.

Any time you add new content to your Blog, the RSS Feed automatically gets updated in everyone's Reader program or web browser. Which means you are guaranteed to stay in contact with clients and prospects. You don't have to do anything other than show the content. Likewise, you don't face the problems of email filters and anti-Spam programs blocking your email. However, people tend to read RSS Feeds because they have subscribed to them whereas they tend to ignore non-urgent emails.

At the same time you can recognise, there are certain advantages to Blogs and RSS Feeds. But it doesn't stop there. Search engines love them. That's because Blogs supply fresh and new content - Exactly what searchers are looking for. Consequently the search engines are actively driving Blogs higher up the search engine ranking. This means if you don't have a Blog for your business, you are severely shortening your chances of a high search engine ranking. You need a Blog nowadays to get noticed by the search engines.

Hence, Blogging is required. Not only does it help improve your web presence; it also means you can keep in contact with clients and prospects more smoothly. And all the marketing research you can find will inform you that keeping in normal touch with your customers is a significant part in gaining additional business. So get ready to Blog!

Business Blogging -- Should it Be A Protected Free Speech Right?

Business Blogging -- Should it Be A Protected Free Speech Right?

Leading SEO Expert Aaron Matthew Wall Author of SEO Book Sued over Blogging Free Speech Issue.

Blogging has come a long way as it relates to becoming a part of mainstream media. Blogging has more recently been credited with breaking major news stories and influencing major political campaigns.

One of my favorite sources to read on current SEO developments is leading search engine marketer Aaron Matthew Wall. He has recently been commenting on a law suit from a company called Traffic Power.

Quite frankly I don't know all the issues involved, but I know young Mr. Wall (only 25) to be a straight shooter on what works and doesn't work in SEO work. People like Aaron are becoming personal brands online because of blogging.

This legal action is some what setting a standard on legal rights and actions brought against bloggers. The right of a blogger to express their opinions about businesses has caught the attention of the Wall Street Journal (obviously not owned by Aaron Wall).

I am a reader of SEO Book and have emailed Aaron Wall on occasion. I even have a review of his book on my site.

From Aaron's weblog I knew this was brewing for some time. Aaron will praise useful services and also tell others when something is a scam.

As a blogger it is hard to tell where to draw the line. There are so many rip-off traffic companies out there you feel obligated to tell your subscribers.

I don't know all the issues in the Traffic Power law suit, however I think a person should be able to express their opinion about their business experiences and outlook online.

I see sites advertising and have even experienced some services telling you they will run your ad and get you millions of impressions. Then you discover their Alexa ranking is 3,500,000 and they are putting your ad in rotation with 16 other advertisers.

It would take them forever -- and they still couldn't get you a million impressions! They are just rip-offs and when you let others know to avoid these traffic fraud type companies they get mad and want to sue.

I am doing a lot of testing of different ways to drive lots of targeted traffic to my sites, but 60% of the companies I try are total rip-offs. Many of them I suspect generate traffic bots and not actual people. When we weblog our readers expect us to have a personality and give them the inside scoop and our opinion on things. Legal action like this will really make our jobs more challenging to say the least.

Not only are companies trying to sue bloggers for their commentary, but they are also attempting to sue bloggers for feed back left by others on their weblog . What is unbelievable about this law suit is Mr. Wall is not only being sued just for his remarks, but also for remarks left by others on his weblog !

I think Aaron is courageous in taking a stand for the ability to express his opinion, and the right of his weblog users to also state theirs. He is helping to keep the Internet a media of free speech.

I wish Aaron Wall well in his decision to not take his personal or critical commentary down on Traffic Power. He shouldn't have to feel afraid to state his opinion on web marketing matters, even when some companies don't approve of their reviews. These companies would do better improving their product and put less time into suing and other forms of intimidation.

Text Content - There is no dispute that affiliate programs are lucrative ways to make extra money whether you do it full time or part time. By all accounts you can make a very good living by affiliate marketing alone. However, don't be overzealous about some promises people make as there are alot of people who know the tricks of this business and try all avenues to lure you into selling thier products for a meager percentage of the sale.

Content Management Systems - So many people talk these days about Google and its sandbox. They complain that they have to wait up to 2 months for Google to index their sites and new pages on them. My personal experience shows that Google sandbox is fading as a myth. Why? Because quality content combined with RRS technology and sitemaps makes your new pages indexed by Google in days. IN DAYS!

Keyphrase Optimization - After deciding what kind of internet business you want to do, it's time to start planning the design and content of your business. Many people make the mistake of skipping this step, choosing instead to immediately start work on their web site.

Quality Content - As the Internet continues to mature, the effectiveness of the once tried and tested methods for driving traffic to your web site seems to be diminishing. Wouldn't you agree? How much do you spend (or plan to spend) on the more traditional online advertising methods each year? Too much I'm sure, money that should have otherwise stayed in your pockets.

Web Site Content - As the saying goes on the web "Content is King." There is no argument that if you are going to have an effective Internet presence you must have current, dynamic content that gives your visitors reasons to come back time and again. While content may be king there seems to be little discussion about the optimal way to manage this content for small to medium sized businesses.

Dynamic Content - I see many new webmasters throw up web sites with a few words about what they are offering and call it a day. Months later, these new webmasters find that they haven’t seen more than a few visitors and they are wondering what went wrong. The fact is, they could have helped themselves a lot more had they been using dynamic content on their web sites.
